Asynchronous working

Recently, I finally began working on a collaborative project...that started two years ago! It wasn't that I forgot about the project - I was very aware of it - but life and time-sensitive projects happened. Days, then months, flew by.

On the other hand, it's been refreshing to work on a project where both of us can allow ideas to percolate. It's also refreshing to work at our own pace and allow the work to flow organically around our life.

Working in the arts means having to meet lots of strict deadlines. It's the nature of the beast. In order to complete a project, you need time to create, and the gallery/venue needs time to prepare and promote. It's a delicate balance of ensuring all checklists are met while preserving your sanity.

So it's been a nice change of pace to step away from that pressurised environment, and to simply enjoy the process of creating. To do deep dives into new approaches, and to revel in the joy of discovery.

Maybe this year is the year our project gets released into the world. Or maybe next year. Whenever it is, it's okay.
